Hey everyone, and welcome to the page! This is a milestone I’ve been looking forward to sharing. This post marks the official start of my journey to build a $50,000 side hustle by turning something I love into a real source of income.
For years, woodworking has been my passion. I’ve spent countless weekends in the garage building all sorts of things as a hobby—custom furniture for my own home, sturdy planter boxes for the garden, you name it. The satisfaction of creating something useful and beautiful from a pile of timber is a feeling that’s hard to beat. But it’s always been just for me, my family, or friends. I’d often look at a finished piece and think, “I wonder if I could sell these?”
Recently, I decided to stop wondering and start doing.
My garage had a healthy collection of reclaimed timber I’d gathered over time. I love working with it—each piece has its own unique character. Looking at the pile, I had an idea: a charming, rustic wishing well that could become a feature in someone’s garden.
Drawing on my years of experience, I got to work. The process of building is second nature to me now, but this project felt different. Every design choice was made with a potential customer in mind. I wasn’t just building for myself; I was creating a product. I pieced together the base, framed the roof, I added a small hand-crank and a bucket for that final touch of whimsy.
Once it was complete, I took a few photos and, with a mix of excitement and nerves, posted it for sale online. This was the real test. It’s one thing for your friends to say, “That’s great, you should sell those!”—it’s another for a complete stranger to part with their hard-earned money for something you made.
To my surprise and delight, it didn’t take long. A message popped up within an hour from a lovely lady who lived nearby. She said she’d been looking for exactly something like it for her garden. Her plan was to place it over a large pot plant, letting colourful flowers spill out from the base and the top bucket area. We agreed on a price of $200 cash, and she came to pick it up last weekend.
Seeing her face light up was the best part. But honestly, holding that $200 cash in my hand felt incredible. It was validation. It was the first tangible proof that my hobby, something I pour my time and passion into, has real value to other people.
This wishing well is so much more than my first sale. It’s the bridge between “hobbyist” and “hustler.” It’s proof that you can take a skill you’ve honed for years for your own enjoyment and turn it into something that pays.
This is just the first step on a much bigger journey, but it’s the most important one. This is the first official sale since starting this page. The goal is $50,000, and adding this $200 to my previous earnings brings my side hustle total to $1,726.96. I’m fired up and already planning the next project.

Thanks for joining me for the ride. I’m excited to share the wins, the lessons, and the whole process with you.
